The path to verification (services)

What service verification actually unlocks, when it's worth paying for, and how the subscription works.

Verification is the difference between "listed" and "discoverable"

For shops, verification is optional. For services, verification is what turns a callable profile into a trusted business.

Unverified services can be found, called, and messaged on WhatsApp — that's not the question anymore. What they can't do is wear the verified ✓ badge, build a showcase, rank in the top tier of the directory, or get the prominent Spotlight rail spot. Without those, many buyers see your profile, take note, and then book the verified salon / mechanic / photographer one row above.

This guide explains exactly what verification unlocks, what it costs, and when it's worth paying for.

What verification unlocks (the short list)

Feature Unverified Verified
Profile exists
Search by name
Appears in service directory (category browse) ✓ (below verified tier) ✓ (top tier)
Call + WhatsApp contact buttons on profile ✓ (with ✓ tick)
Buy paid promotions (Spotlight, Top in Category, Local Boost)
Appear in the Spotlight Featured rail ✓ (below verified buyers) ✓ (above unverified buyers)
Higher video upload cap
Verified ✓ check mark (everywhere your name appears)
Showcase / portfolio
Top-tier ranking in browse (always above unverified, even with same boost)

The bold rows are the trust stack — what makes a buyer pick you over the next provider in the list. You can be reached as an unverified service, but most buyers go down the directory tapping profiles until something earns the booking. Verified services earn it more often.

The bottom line: without verification, you're reachable but not recommended. With verification, you're the obvious pick.

What verification costs

The verification subscription is a monthly fee set on KampalaSnap's Pricing Hub. The current fee is shown on Edit → Verification before you subscribe. As of mid-2026, it's in the range of 15,000-30,000 UGX/month depending on tier.

Payment methods:

You can turn auto-renew on so you never accidentally lose verification, or off if you want to test for one month.

Will verification pay for itself?

For most service providers, yes — within their first 1-2 bookings of the month.

Quick math for a mobile braider charging 60,000 UGX per job:

The math is similar for other services. As long as you get at least one booking per month from KampalaSnap traffic, you're ahead.

If you're skeptical, try one month verified. If it pays for itself, keep going. If it doesn't, turn auto-renew off and re-evaluate.

"Can't I just buy ads instead of verifying?"

Real question, worth answering directly.

You can buy Spotlight, Top in Category, and Local Boost without verifying. Those boosts will lift your profile in the directory and the Featured rail. Buyers can call and WhatsApp you from the profile. So what does verification actually add?

Trust + ranking + the showcase. Here's what a Spotlight-only campaign typically looks like for an unverified service:

Step What happens
Buyer browses the Services tab Your service appears in the rail (below verified Spotlight buyers — verification still sorts above unverified within the same campaign type)
Buyer taps your card Your profile loads — bio, videos, location, contact buttons
Buyer compares you to the verified salon one row above Verified service has the ✓ badge, has a showcase, has more reviews. You have a bio.
Buyer taps the verified one instead Booking lost.

The boost paid for the view. The verification (showcase, badge, trust signals) is what wins the comparison. Without it, the buyer's last-look comparison goes to whoever has more credibility on screen.

Verification (~25k/month) is the price of trust. Ads (~25-75k/month) are the price of visibility. They're complementary, not substitutes. Visibility + no trust = traffic that doesn't convert.

If your budget only stretches to one of them, the right choice depends on how new your service is:

If your budget stretches to both, verification + Spotlight is the strong combo: you're in the rail, ranked above unverified Spotlight buyers, you wear the ✓, and your showcase converts taps into bookings.

When verification is NOT worth it

Some situations:

You're already at booking capacity

If you're fully booked from word-of-mouth + Instagram + your own website, KampalaSnap traffic is incremental. Verification might still pay for itself but the urgency is lower.

You serve a tiny niche

If you do something very specialized with maybe 5 potential buyers in all of Uganda, the directory exposure may not matter. Direct outreach might serve you better than algorithmic discovery.

You're testing the platform

For your first 2-4 weeks, operating unverified to feel out the platform is fine. You won't get bookings, but you'll learn the interface. Verify when you're ready to actually compete for traffic.

How to apply

Verification is fast — no admin review for services:

  1. Service Hub → EditVerification.
  2. Read the terms (subscription details, promotion options).
  3. Tap Subscribe.
  4. Pick payment method.
  5. Tap Pay.

If payment succeeds, your verified badge appears within minutes. The contact CTA activates. Your profile is added to the directory.

What to do RIGHT AFTER verifying

The day you verify, do these:

1. Polish your profile

Your unverified profile was for testing. Now buyers will actually look at it. Re-read Setting up your profile and make sure every section is filled and current.

2. Build a showcase

The showcase is your portfolio — your best work, organized for buyers to skim. It's verified-only, so start filling it. See Building your showcase.

3. Upload more videos

The cap is now higher. Get 3-5 strong videos up showing your work, your process, and you as a person. See Your first service video for what works.

4. Consider paid promotion

If you want to fast-track to the top of your category, the Spotlight option puts you on the Featured rail. Pricing and mechanics in Directory placement + paid promotion.

5. Tell your past customers

Send a WhatsApp message to your past clients:

"Hi! Quick favor — I just launched my service profile on KampalaSnap. If you can leave a quick review, it would mean a lot. Here's the link: [your-profile-url]"

Five positive reviews from real past customers can make your profile land much higher in your category's ranking from day one.

The verification mechanics, in brief

Subscription renewal

Same model as shop verification. Your renewal date is the same calendar day each month from your first subscription.

If auto-renew is on, we charge automatically on the renewal date (wallet first, then saved payment method).

If auto-renew is off, the renewal doesn't fire. Your status expires at end of day.

Failed payments go to past_due. You have 7 days to re-pay before the badge goes away. After 30 days, the subscription fully expires.

Price-locking

If KampalaSnap raises the verification fee for new providers, existing subscribers keep paying the old price as long as they stay continuously subscribed. Skip a month = lose the lock.

Vacation pause

You can pause your service profile for up to 30 days. Subscription keeps running during pause. See Subscription mechanics + vacation for the full picture.

Common questions

Can I get a refund if verification doesn't bring bookings?

Within the first 7 days of a fresh subscription (first month after being unverified or expired), yes — email support@kampalasnap.com and we'll refund.

After 7 days, the month is non-refundable. Turn auto-renew off if you don't want to be charged the next month.

Can I verify temporarily — say, for a wedding season — and pause the rest of the year?

Yes. Subscribe, get the verification + traffic, then turn auto-renew off when the busy season ends. Status expires at month-end. Re-subscribe when the next busy season starts.

Note: breaking continuity loses your locked price. If you skip months and the fee has gone up, you'll pay the higher rate when you come back.

Is verification connected to a business registration?

No. KampalaSnap doesn't ask for tax info, TIN, or business reg. Verification is just a subscription that adds features.

If your local laws require business registration to take payments for services, that's between you and your tax office — but KampalaSnap doesn't enforce it.

Can I be a verified service AND a verified shop?

Yes — they're separate subscriptions. Some sellers verify both, some verify only one. Many start with whichever is more important and verify the other later.

Do I need to wait for an admin review to be approved?

No. Service verification is payment-driven — no admin review. Pay the fee, your profile is verified within minutes.

(Shop verification used to involve more review; services are simpler.)

What if I lose verification status due to a missed payment — does my data go away?

No. Your profile, videos, reviews, and showcase all stay. They just stop being publicly visible (your profile becomes unfindable in the directory, the contact CTA stops working).

When you re-subscribe, everything comes back exactly as it was. You don't lose history.

Can I downgrade if there are multiple tiers?

Downgrade requests apply at next renewal. You finish the current month at the higher tier, next renewal charges the lower price.
